When to switch from chick feed to layer or grower feed?

The timing of switching from chick feed to grower or layer feed depends on the age and development of the chickens. Here are some general guidelines:

  1. Chick starter feed: This is a high-protein feed designed for baby chicks from hatch to 6-8 weeks of age. It contains about 18-20% protein and is formulated to support the rapid growth and development of young chicks.

  2. Grower feed: Once chicks reach 6-8 weeks of age, they can be switched to a grower feed. Grower feed contains slightly less protein than chick starter (usually around 16-18%) and is formulated to support steady growth and development as the birds transition from chicks to adults.

  3. Layer feed: If you are raising laying hens, you should switch to a layer feed around 18-20 weeks of age or when the first egg is laid. Layer feed contains even less protein than grower feed (usually around 14-16%) but is higher in calcium, which is important for eggshell development.

It's important to note that these are general guidelines, and the specific timing of switching feeds may vary depending on factors such as the breed of chicken, their growth rate, and the specific formulation of the feed
